Q and A
How is a D&D Therapy Group different from a normal D&D campaign?
- Everything inside the group is confidential! Essentially this means, you will not be able to disclose what happens within the group to others. Â
- The DM has created a campaign specific to anxiety and depression as well as building social skills.
- Your character development will be created pertaining to your specific growth journey.
- We will reflect on themes and characters – player parallels during a reflection portion of our time at the end of each group
- Careful consideration is given to put a frame around the gameplay. We will create a specific timeframe to get into our game characters and then de-role before we leave. Additionally, facilitators will provide extra attention to safety tools regarding game content.Â
Do I have to already know how to play D&D?
- You sure don’t!  Information gathered during the pre-group interview will assist us in balancing the experience levels of the individuals within the group
- If you want to be prepared though, below is a list of links you can check out before we get started.Â
What does a D&D Therapy Group actually look like?
- We will meet for 2 hours for 6 weeks
- 15 minutes will be used to check-in and mindfully transition into character
- Gameplay will ensue
- The last 30 minutes, we will transition out of character and debrief how the session went
- Facilitators will be there to help facilitate character creation, gameplay and to reflect themes that connect us. They will also help manage any conflicts that arise and aim to cultivate an emotionally safe space for everyone.
How do I actually benefit and grow from playing in a D&D Therapy Group?
- Click here to learn about the benefits of playing tabletop role play games like D&D.
- We will take time to reflect on parallels between group dynamics, moral decisions, values, goals, characteristics, and conflicts.
- The caveat is always that you get what you put into the campaign. So I challenge you to focus on how you can translate these skills into your daily life.Â
