Justin Rivas, LMFT Associate Supervised by Bethany Luna, LMFT-S

Hi, my name is Justin and I am a LMFT Associate supervised by Bethany Luna, LMFT-S. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges and move toward greater healing, resilience, and personal growth. I believe that every person has the capacity to overcome adversity and create meaningful change when given the right support, tools, and environment. My goal as a counselor is to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel empowered to explore their experiences, better understand themselves, and develop strategies that support lasting well-being.

I draw from both my personal experiences and professional training to create an approach that is collaborative and individualized. I understand that no two people experience suffering in the same way, which is why I work to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs, values, and goals. I strive to meet clients where they are while helping them build confidence, self-awareness, and practical skills that can support growth both inside and outside of therapy.

My therapeutic approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, multicultural perspectives, and exposure-based techniques. Through CBT, I help clients recognize and challenge unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may contribute to anxiety, depression, stress, or emotional distress. I also integrate mindfulness practices to encourage greater emotional awareness, grounding, and self-compassion. I value multicultural counseling approaches that honor each client’s identity, lived experiences, culture, and worldview, and I believe therapy should always feel affirming and inclusive. When appropriate, I utilize exposure-based interventions to help clients gradually confront fears, reduce avoidance, and build confidence in managing difficult situations.

I am especially passionate about supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, life stress, emotional overwhelm, and periods of transition or uncertainty. I believe healing happens through connection, trust, and honest self-exploration, and I work to offer unconditional positive regard so clients feel accepted and supported throughout the therapeutic process.

As someone dedicated to serving the greater Lubbock community, I am committed to helping clients move toward fuller, healthier, and more meaningful lives. My hope is that clients leave therapy feeling more empowered, more connected to themselves, and better equipped to navigate the challenges they face.

Coaching Versus Therapy

These are two VERY different experiences.  You get to choose what serves you best in your life today.

As a therapist, Bethany listens and uses evidence-based approaches that she's learned in school and in trainings.  It's such valuable work.  We dive deep in the trauma and the pain of the past, and we explore different ways to frame and shape those experiences.  As a therapy client, you will gain psycho-education and knowledge of current research-based practices and be challenged to implement changes in your thoughts, feelings and actions.

As a coach, Bethany is a mirror: reflecting and channeling.  She is a vessel and uses her energetic responses and embodied experiences to support you.  As a coaching client, we focus on upleveling your experience through energetic, embodied practices, accessing your consciousness through accessing the collective healing of the Universe.

Bethany is the same person, but these are two VERY different healing experiences she uses to support you.  As a therapist, Bethany does not discuss religion or spirituality without prompting; however, as a coach, our entire work is focused on accessing the energies of the Universe and ourselves.

Artistic Truths

The logo of Phoenix Moon Healing is in the shape of a moon to signify our connection to the earth and our spirit animals.  It is a call to remember to access the parts of us that the world has quieted with its structure, rules and bullshit.  A call to howl at the moon and access our aligned self that is raw and vulnerable, to bring the yin and the yang of the feminine and masculine energies.  The phoenix signifies our constant evolution, becoming and unbecoming, all the same and all different.  The phoenix is our steady energetic signature of strength as we activate and access our highest self.
