Hi, my name is Sofía Hernández Gómez, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor
Associate, born in Mexico City. I consider myself a bicultural person, as I was raised
throughout my life in both countries Mexico, and United States, this has given me the ability to empathize and understand the acculturation process. In 2013, I graduated from Universidad del Valle de Mexico with my bachelor’s in psychology and completed my master’s in counseling from West Texas A&M University in 2022.
In my professional background experience, I’ve had the honor working in psychiatric hospitals and non-profit organizations in individual and group modalities.
Facilitating programs of grief, survivors of suicide, battering intervention and prevention in domestic violence that has prepared me to engage with different populations.
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults through art therapy, as a
transformative and insightful tool to the inner workings of the mind and emotional state. Having a creative visual outlet to express your experiences, offering a space to start recognizing your strengths, develop self-awareness, improve social skills, address unresolved conflicts, increase self-esteem, leading to empowerment.
One of my goals as a therapist is to create a safe environment where anyone can feel
comfortable to express, through the feeling of unconditional positive regard, empathy,
and compassion, to start the healing process and endure the hardships of life by
building resilience, cultivating new coping skills, exploring the connections between the mind, body, and emotions. Another goal of mine is to advocate for minorities groups, providing support for a population whose language barrier can get in the way to acquire help.
I truly believe that everyone has the ability to achieve growth, to heal and expand their
potential to become their best possible self’s. It would be my honor to navigate and
explore all those uncharted places next to you.
